Following the definition of “public” as “belonging to or concerning the people as a whole,” performer Candice Salyers is joining downtown revitalization efforts in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to explore the place of performance in the public sphere. Made possible through the efforts of Mary Chapin-Durling, Cultural Affairs Director at Fitchburg State College, along with a variety of community organizations, this year-long committment to public performance in different locations throughout Fitchburg will continue the community’s initiative to engage in meaningful conversation and re-envisioning of the public life of the city.  Through a series of installation performances, dancer and community will come to know each other over time as well as investigate the “public” nature of art.
